I am a life long resident of Jackson County. I served in the USAF or 10 year with multiple deployments to the Middle East. Since moving home I have been a real estate agent, electrician at Ingalls, and have just completed my B.S. degree in Legal Studies from Bellevue University. I have been studying libertarian philosophy since 2008. As I learned more about the free market and personal liberty I realized that I could no longer stay with the Republican Party.
If elected I will work to phase out the residential property tax. I believe that a person should be secure in his home and the property tax infringes on this security. By instituting a state lottery and sending a portion of the sales tax to the county instead of Jackson, then we can begin to transition the counties away from depending on the residential property tax.
If elected I will work to legalize marijuana. This is an issue for two reasons. The first is that over the past few years we have seen benefits of medical marijuana. This is a new field to medicine and the government should not stand in the way of it. If the government insists in having a role in medicine, then it should encourage medical research. Elected officials do not have the authority to restrict health improvement. It is time to end this practice. The second reason this is an issue is that I have three kids. My oldest will be 18 in 5 years. Even though I am raising him to stay away from marijuana, I have to accept that he will make his own decisions. If he makes a bad choice and gets caught, I do not think sending him to prison is the right answer. This is an issue that I would rather deal with at home instead of in the court room.
